Romans 16 — Faithful Servants and Final Praise
Key Text (ESV): “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.” — Romans 16:24
Devotional Thought
Romans closes with names, greetings, warnings, and praise. The gospel advances through ordinary saints who work, suffer, give, host, pray, and labour alongside one another. No faithful service is insignificant in Christ’s kingdom.
Paul also warns against divisive teachers who use smooth speech to deceive. Christian men must therefore combine warm affection with doctrinal vigilance. The church’s confidence is not in its own strength, but in the God who is able to establish His people according to the gospel.
Expository Focus
1. Gospel Work Is Shared Work (vv. 1–16)
Phoebe, Priscilla, Aquila, and many others demonstrate that gospel ministry involves faithful cooperation across different roles and circumstances.
2. Truth Must Be Guarded (vv. 17–20)
Believers must watch for those who create division contrary to apostolic doctrine. Discernment is an expression of love for Christ’s people.
3. God Establishes His Church (vv. 25–27)
The mystery of the gospel, now revealed to the nations, culminates in the glory of the only wise God through Jesus Christ.
Questions for Men
- Is my service known for faithfulness, cooperation, and encouragement?
- Am I sufficiently watchful over the doctrine shaping my home and church?
Prayer: Wise and faithful God, establish me in the gospel. Make me a dependable servant, a discerning protector of truth, and a man who lives for Your glory through Jesus Christ. Amen.
